How to select A THERAPIST
1. In all walks of life we would ideally like to select the people we interact with; in the field of complementary / alternative healthcare, this becomes particularly relevant. You are after all about to enter into a healing partnership with somebody on whom you will be relying to help you heal your body. It therefore pays to take time to select the right practitioner, whether with S.C.E.N.A.R. or any other healing discpline. All ISTA-registered practitioners accept that the interpersonal relationship between them and their patient-client is important and are therefore ready to accept you advising them that you wish to move to another practitioner if you do not feel comfortable with your current practitioner. If you do not have another therapist in mind, your current one will help you find one. Please, to be fair to our members, see through any treatment programme agreed with your practitioner after your first, trial, consultation. 2. Take your time and use your intuition when selecting your practitioner with the aid of our Locate a Therapist. Do not necessarily select one just because of their geographic proximity to you, even if this might be convenient for the course of treatments you can expect. Typically S.C.E.N.A.R. requires a programme of attendance consisting of around 5 treatments; in Russia some programmes provide 2-3 treatments a day, for a period of a week or more. Should your requirement be for such a heavy treatment programme, explore with your practitioner whether it might not be better for you to attend one of the S.C.E.N.A.R. establishments in Russia or the Ukraine , where some offer teams of up to 12 doctors, all S.C.E.N.A.R. trained, who will be able to provide intensive residential treatment better and more cost-effectively than anywhere else for the moment. ISTA will also be able to help. 3. There is no such thing as a right or wrong treatment with S.C.E.N.A.R., there is only appropriate and effective S.C.E.N.A.R. Practitioners may use one of a number of S.C.E.N.A.R. devices and may use a number of protocols; by being eligible for registration with ISTA, they will have satisfied this organisation that they have been trained to the level at which they will know which device and treatment protocols will best alleviate the condition your body wishes to have treated at that particular visit. Some practitioners may also combine S.C.E.N.A.R. with another treatment, if you feel comfortable with this, rest assured that this practitioner, guided ISTA's' Code of Practice, will have ascertained with ISTA whether this is an acceptable approach. 4. Study the pages of this Website, ask questions, go for a trial treatment and then decide. Almost three decades of S.C.E.N.A.R. practice in Russia have demonstrated that most who commit to a course of S.C.E.N.A.R. therapy achieve often remarkable improvements in their conditions. Although S.C.E.N.A.R. is usually permitted to be presented as a pain-treatment device, which it most excellently does, the Russian experience, as well as the intention of S.C.E.N.A.R.'s designer, suggests other results are possible. As a matter of fact, the Russian experience suggests successful treatments with a very wide range of disorders. 5. The better you prepare yourself for the healing-journey you will be commencing with your practitioner, the greater your success is likely to be. When you have completed you research, call the practitioner you have put at the top of your list and ask her or him any of the questions you have prepared. You may want to include questions about ISTA-membership (if you came to him or her via another route, rather than this Website); about medical malpractice insurance cover and the type of insurance (professional indemnity alone or coupled with medical negligence, it is the latter you are looking for to be protected in the event of a something untoward happening). The latter issues will not apply in countries in which practitioners are typically not insured or required to be insured. 6. Allow plenty of time for a visit to a S.C.E.N.A.R. practitioner - treatments can last from 25 minutes to an hour (the first session will almost cetainly last closer to one hour and more). The duration of this treatment is determined by the "conversation" that takes place between the S.C.E.N.A.R. device and your body. The device requires skin-contact, so please wear easy to remove clothing. On your first visit with every practitioner, expect to be asked a number of questions about your medical history and current symptoms. Please understand that this is a requirement of their professional status with ISTA. 7. As a general statement, be careful of practitioners who in their publicity material, whether printed or on the Internet make superlative claims, like "the most experienced", "the greatest", even "the first", "the only", "authorised by" and "representing". If in doubt, check with ISTA - even if the practitioner about whom you are enquiring is not a member, we can usually find out about most and let you know what the real situation is. ISTA-members are discouraged from making such claims and where they do, we ask that they substantiate them. 8. Following your visit, please take time to let ISTA know how it went by completing the short practitioner feedback form available if you click here. This feedback helps both the practitioner and ISTA to ensure that your next visit, and those of others, will be more helpful and constructive. All comments will be carefully considered and discussed with the practitioner and ISTA's membership in general. The details of those providing such feedback are kept confidential by ISTA.
